THE 2011 BARN TOUR: OAKVILLE- RUTHERFORD

Nickel and Nickel Fermentation Barn, photo by Adrian Gregorutti
How do you celebrate the agricultural heritage of Napa County? The Barn Tour! Partnering with the Napa County Farm Bureau, this year we are in the heart of wine country, Oakville- Rutherford. There will be lots to see, tons to learn and way too much fun for one terrific August Sunday! !click here to buy tix!

This year there are a total of six barns:
The barns of Nickel and Nickel are in Oakville; if you need an architectural triple shot, this will be your spot. There are three barns here: each one all about craftsmanship, design, history and attention to detail...exactly like the wines of Nickel and Nickle! One barn, was built circa 1770 in Meriden, New Hampshire by the Gleason family. The 3,000 square-foot pre-Revolutionary War-era hay barn was spared demolition by its purchase in 2001 then shipped west to Napa for reconstruction and reuse in a viticultural context. The other two barns are icons to a passion for excellence, craftsmanship and longevity. These two recently built fermentation barns boast reclaimed woods, hand joinery, post-and-beam, mortise-and-tenon construction and many many more elements of architectural brilliance.

On the Rutherford Road you will find the Red pole barn at Round Pond: this will be the hub barn where all the music, food, talks, art and resource (see below for list) tables will be located. Like last year, our Brunch in a Barn will be supplied by the fabulous Sweetie Pies with music by Napa's own Passin' Thru band. Least one forget, art is a vital part of the cultural heritage of place; this year we will have a very cool art lounge designed and exhibited by St Helena artist Dan Hale in the Red Pole Barn.

The Helios Ranch barn in north Rutherford is a big, beautiful barn; we will try to access a long forgotten, never explored root cellar and explore its hidden treasures. This ranch also has an elegantly beautiful home now known as the Ink House Bed and Breakfast (open to tour attendees after noon), an old cistern and other neat relics scattered about.

Like every year, we throw in historic hidden gems..places you've always wondered about or never knew nuthin' about!

Tickets are limited - The Barn Tour takes place on back roads, small lanes and in old buildings. Please carpool.Ticket holders will receive a map and tour program at check in
detailing the background of the sites. Docents will be on hand at each barn stop.
